Sharjah: The Sharjah Municipality has announced that more than 1,400 parking slots in Sharjah will be converted into paid parking areas by early 2022. The Sharjah Municipality has also organized a campaign against the illegal use of sandy areas and open yards for parking. In addition to the facility to pay via SMS, smart payment meters powered by Touch technology have also been installed in the new parking areas.

The total number of paid parking slots in Sharjah has now increased to 55,300, said Hamad Al Qaid, director of the public parking department in Sharjah Municipality. Of these, 1,210 have smart meters. The municipality has so far provided 270 parking yards with 18,033 parking slots. The municipality has ensured that adequate parking is available in all areas of the Emirate of Sharjah, as well as closing down a number of areas that are detrimental to the city’s aesthetic appearance.
