Storyline

Experts and scholars from across the world gathered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Sunday for the opening of the 2019 World Green Economy Summit to promote green economy and sustainable development.

Themed “Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Economy”, the two-day summit will cover topics such as dilemmas faced by the private sector in achieving the transformation towards a green economy, and how to enhance international cooperation by promoting global sustainable development.

The experts will take part in extensive and in-depth exchanges and discussions on the issues in light of coming up with successful sustainability strategies, systems and policies.

“The earth, it will not be good for life, if we are using or consuming resources as we are using now. Then we have to change. How to change? By regulations and incentives,” said Dr. Mohamed Gamal Kafafy, president of World Green Economy Council.

China’s efforts in the development of a green economy and active role in promoting sustainable development in recent years have won high praises from experts attending the summit.

“China has been a beacon and an example to the world, and we are very confident that China by reducing the carbon intensity of its growth as it is doing and trying to transform the economy more to the area of services, will really become a model and example for the green economy,” said Jorge Chediek, director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation.
