Erin Gruwell, the teacher who inspired the 2007 movie, "Freedom Writers," will visit Clifton Middle School students Thursday.
Gruwell, played by Hilary Swank in the movie, used as an educator in 1994 to help at-risk students find their voices, uses and inspiration by connecting the curriculum to their experiences Monrovia Unified.
She took a group of students – who had been deemed unteachable – under her wing. Once they are in their dayneys, the release said.
Gruwell founded the Freedom Writers Foundation in 1997, a nonprofit organization that encourages teachers and students to adapt her teaching and learning methods.
