(Ecofin Agency) – In Rwanda, coffee shipments generated more than $ 69 million in 2018, about $ 5 million more than a year earlier.
The announcement was made by Bill Kayonga, Executive Director of the Rwandan Agricultural Export Development Council (NAEB).
Speaking on the sidelines of the 17 th Conference-Exhibition of Fine Coffees of Africa (AFCCE) which takes place in Kigali from 12 to 15 February, he attributes this increase in value to the efforts made by the government to improve the quality of the bean.
These include the increase in the number of coffee washing stations from 50 to 300 during the last 10 years.
The main destinations of Rwandan coffee are Switzerland, the USA, the United Kingdom and Belgium.
The industry employs about 400 000 producers and generates 24% of total agricultural exports.
