RASA Sport Awards launched in Windhoek


Namibia will play host to the fourth edition of the Regional Annual Sport Awards on the 25th of May in Windhoek.
The launch of RASA took place in Windhoek on Friday to announce the first ever RASA awards to take place in Namibia.
RASA is Regional Annual Sport Awards that recognizes the achievement of athletes in the region. This is the first time the awards are being hosted outside South Africa since its inception three years ago.
Delivering a key note address at the launch was the Deputy Director of Disability Sport in the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service Jo-Ann Manuel who outlined the objectives of RASA.

”As per the AUSC Region 5 Awards Rulebook, the primary mandate of the AUSC Region 5 is to encourage all ten member countries to host national sport awards preceding the RASA, The winners at country level are automatically entered as RASA nominees. All these nominees are already winners in their own right and now it’s all about triumph at the regional level” Manuel said.
Speaking at the occasion, the former winner of RASA Sportsman of the year with a Disability Ananias Shikongo said, he is very happy to be a nominee again.
“I am happy to be nominated again, I am also happy that Namibia has been given the chance to host this year’s awards, as the event always took place in South Africa” Shikongo said.
The award ceremony coincides with the Africa day month as part of a momentous occasion to celebrate athletes under the Africa Union Sport Council 5 at a regional level
