Preparatory work begins on Arab League Summit in Tunis


(ANSAmed) – TUNIS, MARCH 27 – A meeting on Wednesday of the
Arab League Economic and Social Council officially kicked off
preparatory work in Tunis leading up to the 30th Arab League
Summit, which will be held in the Tunisian capital on Sunday,
March 31.

The Economic and Social Council approved a proposal by
Tunisia to enact a strategy of promotion of social and health
rights for the elderly population in Arab countries, according
to Arab League Summit spokesperson Mahmoud Khemiri.

He said the summit will provide a chance for discussing
measures to alleviate the suffering of migrants and refugees in
the Arab region, as well as the possibility of creating a
support fund for Palestine. Regarding the possibility to join the two summits on
development (economic and social) with the political summit,
Khemiri said the decision would be made Wednesday.

He said the preparatory meetings of senior officials on the
Economic and Social Council were “positive”.

He said a preliminary report would be published prior to the
meeting of Arab country ministers of social affairs and economy.

This is the third time that Tunis has hosted the Arab League
