The World Bank Group has approved 145 million U.S. dollars to support Ghana’s urban infrastructure improvement program, a release by the group said Thursday.

This credit facility would continue enhancing institutional capacity for urban management and providing improved basic urban infrastructure in 35 secondary cities, read the release.

According to the release, the credit is additional financing for the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program, a part of the Ghanaian government’s broader urban development and decentralization program. Ghana’s resilient, inclusive, and green recovery from the COVID-19 and sustainable development would depend on how efficiently and effectively growing cities would be managed, it said.

World Bank Country Director for Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone Pierre Laporte said residents of beneficiary municipalities would enjoy improved access to urban services, such as better roads, efficient services, and reduced flooding.

“The additional financing will further focus on strengthening the capacity of secondary cities on climate change mitigation and adaptation,” Laporte added. Enditem
