Dubai: The UAE has announced that it will send an astronaut to space for a six-month mission. With this mission, the UAE will become the 11th country in history to send an astronaut into space on a long-term mission. The announcement follows an agreement signed between the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) and Axiom Space at the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC, according to international media reports.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted that this is another milestone for the UAE in the space sector. He also tweeted that a new agreement had been signed to send the first Arab astronaut to the International Space Station for a 180-day mission.

It has been announced that the astronaut will be part of the SpaceX Crew-6 mission, which is set to launch in early 2023. The Emirati astronaut will conduct a series of complex and innovative experiments. In addition, an in-depth public outreach and education program will be carried out until September 2023 for the 180-day mission.

The results of the space mission are expected to have a significant impact on the global space community. The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center is currently training four astronauts at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston to prepare them for long-term human spaceflight.
