UAE Food Bank distributed 4.32 tons of meat to workers’ housing during the days of Eid Al-Adha, in addition to, the institution allowed donations of livestock through 7 smart applications.
UAE Food Bank is following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Food Bank, through reducing food waste and by distributing food to beneficiary groups through various channels and charities cooperating with the Bank.
Food shipments are delivered from food establishments to the branches of the UAE Food Bank, to be distributed within a specific work mechanism inside and outside the country, where some food parcels were sent abroad in cooperation with Red Crescent Authority.
Where the UAE Food Bank was launched on January 4, 2017, under the patronage of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and the bank is committed to distributing food to target groups of needy families and workers through cooperation and coordination with charitable institutions in the country, as well as through direct distribution of workers’ housing. During the current “Covid 19” pandemic, food quantities are provided to the housing supervisors in order to be distributed by them to the needy groups.
UAE Food Bank employees also ensure the security of food products, including collecting, storing, transporting and distributing meals.
The bank operates through several axes, within an integrated system that ensures the cooperation and participation of all stakeholders, including donors, supervisory, humanitarian and voluntary associations, and coordinating institutions to ensure that the bank performs its mission according to highest levels of efficiency. There are restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, food factories, farms, caterers and suppliers in the country. The system also includes distributing meals to target groups inside and outside the country in coordination with a network of local and international humanitarian and charitable institutions.
A guide has been provided by Dubai Municipality to institutions and stakeholders in the hospitality and food industry within the UAE Food Bank system, explaining health and food safety standards that must be followed in meals donated to the bank.
