The RTA Plans To Introduce Self-Driving Taxis In Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority stated on Saturday that 5% of Dubai’s taxi fleet will be transformed into self-driving cabs by 2023. The move is part of Dubai Taxi Corporation’s (DTC) Strategic Plan 2021-2023, which was approved by Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority’s Board of Executive Directors (RTA).

The plan will see RTA employ artificial intelligence and smart systems to enhance the performance and happiness of its customers.

Corporate Reputation, Excellence & Innovation, Happiness & Positive Energy, Leadership & Teamwork, Sustainability, and Pioneering & Competitiveness are all part of DTC’s Strategic Plan. Digital Transportation, Future Shaping, Financial Sustainability, People Happiness, and Operational Excellence are the five strategic objectives.

The plan also aims to convert 5% of the taxi fleet to autonomous vehicles by 2023 and increase the percentage of environmentally-friendly vehicles to 56%. In the Financial Sustainability aspect, the plan seeks to make saving in expenses and increase operational and non-operational revenues.
