Tennis: Svitolina, Kostyuk reach 1/4 finals of WTA tournament in Abu Dhabi

The tennis year started well for Ukrainian fans – two of our athletes reached the quarterfinals of the elite WTA tournament in Abu Dhabi.

In her last match, Kostyuk faced Tamara Zidanshek from Slovenia. The Ukrainian player let her opponent win only two games in two sets. Elina Svitolina‘s fight turned out to be more intense. Russia’s Alexandrova lost the first set but managed to win the second one. As a result, they had to play a tie-break: Elina managed to secure the final set.

Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) – Katerina Alexandrova (Russia) 6:2, 6:7, 7:6

Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) – Tamara Zidanshek (Slovenia) 6:1, 6:1

Svitolina is expected to face another opponent from Russia – Veronika Kudermetova. Marta Kostyuk, in turn, is waiting for the match against Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain).

As we reported earlier, Ukrainian basketball player Oleksiy Len successfully debuted for Toronto Raptors.

He spent over 21 minutes on the court. In that period of time, he scored two points, made five rebounds, and gave two assists.
