Dubai: The Saudi Shura Council has asked the Saudi Broadcasting Authority to conduct a feasibility study as part of the launch of television channels and media platforms in the languages of Saudi Arabia’s leading expatriate communities.

It is intended to allow broadcast time through specific channels and programs. The Vice President said the move was aimed at enhancing the knowledge of the expatriate community about Saudi culture and international positions on important issues and improving the country’s image. Shura session chaired by Mishal Salmi commented.

The council raised the issue while approving the authority’s annual report, which was read by Ata al-Zubaiti, head of the council’s media committee. Saudi Arabia, with a population of over 35 million, has an estimated 10 million expatriates. Indians are the largest expatriate community in the country.
