The rains have been merciful to the Agriculture sector as evidenced by bumper harvests farmers harvest are getting from various crops.
According to National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), the performance of Tea Production has been incredible. For example in December 2020 alone, the country made four sales for Tea.
“A total of 40,649,796 Kilos were sold at an average price of U$1.85/Kg. Rwanda sold 1,804,005 Kilos at an average price of U$2.55/Kg. In December last year we had traded 1,395,523Kg at an average price of U$2.99/Kg,” NAEB said on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Coffee production has also been impressive, “Last week we exported 381,515Kg of Rwanda Coffee generating U$1,173,789 worth of revenues. 90.7% of this coffee was fully washed and exported to major destinations including; China and United Kingdom”.
RwandaFresh Brand reported that last week it exported a total of 114,909Kg of Rwandan horticultural fresh produce including; fruits, vegetables and flowers- fetching a total of U$286,090 worth of revenues.”
According to RwandaFresh, the major countries of destination for Rwandan fresh products included; the United Kingdom, UAE, DRC, France and Netherlands.
At the beginning of 2021, RwandaFresh Brand also secured a major export deal in the United Arab Emirates, “We secured a one-year deal with Carrefour hypermarket. We will be supplying to this wide UAE retailing company with passion fruits, apple banana, pineapple and avocado.”
Details further indicate that the first shipment to this retail shop includes avocado and passion fruits. Carrefour hypermarket and supermarkets operate in 30 countries across The Middle East, Africa and Asia. With its 320 stores, it serves more than 750,000 customers daily.
