Moon not sighted, Eid on Monday in Saudi Arabia

Popular News

The moon of the holy month of Shawwal was not seen in Saudi Arabia on Saturday (April 30). As a result, Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated in Saudi next Monday (May 2).

A pre-scheduled meeting of Saudi Arabia’s “Moon Sighting Committee” was held on Saturday, according to Gulf News, a Middle East-based news outlet. Earlier, the citizens of the country were requested to inform the committee if they saw the new moon anywhere.

However, no moon sighting was reported anywhere in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. As a result, the holy Eid-ul-Fitr will be held next Monday after completing 30 fasts on Sunday.

The Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, celebrated Eid on the same day like Saudi Arabia. However, no official announcement was made on behalf of these countries immediately. The International Astronomical Center (IAC) in Abu Dhabi has previously said that Middle Eastern countries are unlikely to see the holy month of Shawwal on Saturday (April 30).

Australia and Singapore have announced Eid days before Saudi Arabia. These two countries will also celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr next Monday (May 2).

Eid-ul-Fitr will also be celebrated on Monday in France, a European country.

The National Moon Sighting Committee of Bangladesh will hold a meeting on Sunday evening at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque to determine the date of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
