Expo 2020 Dubai to open The Sustainability Pavilion

Residents and visitors in the UAE will now be among the first to experience Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion before Expo 2020 Dubai launches later this year

As the countdown to “the greatest show on Earth” gains momentum, Expo 2020 Dubai has launched its “Pavilions Premier“, giving visitors and residents in the UAE a first look at the site’s thematic pavilions. From January 22 to April 10, guests in the country will be able to experience Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion before everyone else. Tickets can be booked online for AED25 with limited spots available.

What to expect?

Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is designed by the world-renowned Grimshaw Architects. This monumental structure is a prime example of sustainable building design. It features 1,055 photovoltaic panels arranged on a canopy which is 130-metres wide. Perched atop the roof are ‘energy trees’, which fuel the structure by harnessing solar power, bringing its energy consumption to net zero.

Visitors will be able to walk under the shade of these trees and discover everything Terra has to offer. Among the many highlights, guests will get a chance to wander through lush forests, dive into the depths of the ocean and also see the wonders of the planet in shambles – highlighting the damaging effects of climate change.

The structure is designed to encourage humankind to ponder their relationship with nature and to inspire them to make everyday changes that can help reduce the carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

Coming soon

In the months leading up to the expo, visitors can also expect to get a first look at Alif – The Mobility Pavilion and Mission Possible – The Opportunity Pavilion.

At Alif, visitors will be able to meet larger-than-life, nine-metre-tall historical giants of mobility as they move beyond Earth’s frontiers and reach for the skies.

At Mission Possible, guests can follow in the footsteps of Mariam, Abel and Mama Fatma, whose seemingly small actions have created a big impact in their communities.
