Electronics giant flaunts carbon neutral cooling solutions at Dubai Expo

Intelligent devices for smart homes are emerging as a natural outcome of the evolution of tech-savvy urban spaces across the Middle East, where connectivity and a digital infrastructure are ready to boost innovation. Powered by energy from the world’s largest solar power park, these appliances are also capable of efficiently cooling homes as well as public spaces, by using the sun’s heat to counter the dry desert climate.

Smart meters and solutions to spot leakage have also been introduced to ensure responsible consumption of resources in Dubai, which is currently hosting Expo 2020. The mega event in the Middle East’s emerging smart city, where temperatures can hit extreme levels, is also home to the Chinese pavilion where energy saving cooling solutions are on display.

Created by electronics brand Haier, the intelligent air conditioning at China’s space at the site, is being described as a centrifugal chilling system that saves energy automatically. The mechanism is known to compress vapour for cooling the environment, without contributing to global warming via emissions.

The intelligent device by Haier is capable of self-connectivity, self-power saving and self-operations that facilitate automatic adjustments, according to the climate. It addresses the weather conditions in Dubai, through use of a system to separate vapour from liquid, which also reduces impact of coolants on the shaft.

In addition to that, Haier maintains a consistent humidity to temperature ratio in the Chinese pavilion, while using heat exchange to help provide fresh air that safeguards the health of visitors. All of this is done by using less than half of the electricity which conventional central air conditioning systems require.

The technology being demonstrated at Expo, is among a plethora of sustainable solution, that may soon be available for consumers to preserve the environment one home at a time. The UAE has also started building storage as well as smart monitoring systems, which are small yet effective steps towards making sure that residents make the best of renewable energy.
