A subregional office of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) will soon be set up in Tunis, GFCM Secretary General Abdallah Srour said in an interview on Friday 25 with the secretary of the GFCM. Tunisian State for Water Resources and Fisheries, Abdallah Rabhi.
Tunisia has already agreed to host this representation of the commission, active in the promotion, conservation and management of living marine resources.
The two officials agreed to further cooperate and organize in Tunis, a meeting on the aquaculture sector in Tunisia. Its aim will be to exchange experiences and expertise, in particular in the field of shrimp farming.
The General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean was established, it is recalled, under an international agreement adopted in 1949 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and implemented in February 1952.
