André Greipel took the 3rd place at the finish of the first stage of the 14th edition of the Tropical Amissa Bongo cycling race by stages (2.1) contested in Gabon, Monday to Moanda. The sprinter German 36-year-old was on this occasion his debut under his new colours of the team French Pro continental Arkéa-Samsic, after ten years in Lotto.
The victory at the end of the 100 km course that started at Bongoville went to Italian Niccolo Bonifazio (Direct Energy) in front of the French Lorrenzo Manzin (a Vital Concept).
Greipel, winner of 155 races, including 11 stages in the Tour de France, has been recruited with the aim of allowing his training to get an invitation for the next Great Loop which will start on 6 July in Brussels. There are no more than two invitations to assign after those that have been given to Wanty-Group Gobert and Cofidis.
