Gombe State Agricultural Development Programme (GADP) is to train 24 farmers in different methods of Agricultural production at Songhai Farm, in Port Novo, Benin Republic.
Mr Binus Maina, Programmme Manager, GADP, said the training was being sponsored by World Bank under a programme tagged “Fostering Sustainability, Resilience for Food Security in Northern Nigeria”.
Maina said the programme, which was introduced in 2018 by the World Bank, involved seven northern states namely; Adamawa, Gombe, Benue, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa and Nasarawa.
He said in Gombe State, 10 communities in Balanga and Kaltungo local government areas (LGAs) were identified and selected to benefit from the programme.
The programme manager further explained that in each community, 25 persons were picked for the programme bringing the total to 250 persons in the two selected LGAs.
He said the beneficiaries would be trained for one week in the area of Animal Husbandry, Food Processing, Poultry production and Fish Farming, depending on the module the farmer chose.
Maina said after the training the 25 persons were expected to return to the state and step down the training to members of their various communities.
According to him the project will last for five years and within the period, a lot of empowerment programmes for sustainable food security would be introduced in the communities.
