The Global Fund already approved a grant of $460,475,140 to the Malawi government to aid the fight against HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria to three principal recipients— Action Aid Malawi, World Vision Malawi and the Ministry of Health and Population.

Secretary for Health, Dan Namarika, says in a statement that resources released by the Global Fund are largely utilised for procurement of drugs and commodities for TB, HIV/Aids and Malaria.

“The grant to the Ministry of Health is now $369,669,493.68. The grant period runs for three years from January 1 2018 to December 31 2020,” he says.

Meanwhile, health rights activist George Jobe has said this signals that the recipients are managing the funds in accordance with Global Funds’ guidelines.

“This is good news to Malawi as a whole, especially to ordinary Malawians who cannot afford services in private health facilties,” he said.

Ministry of Health statistics indicate that over 100,000 people in the country have no idea about their HIV status.
