Gabon: Debate on public finances

Libreville, Wednesday 6 March 2019 (News from Gabon) – The subject was Tuesday at the center of a tripartite meeting between the Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy and the Minister of the Budget.

In a context of economic crisis marked by the scarcity of money and an ever increasing increase in the needs of the population, how to control, rationalize government spending and mobilize revenue? The answer to this question gathered on Tuesday the Prime Minister, head of government, the Minister of Economy and the Budget and Public Accounts. Julien Nkoghe Bekale, Jean-Marie Ogandaga and Jean-Fidèle Otandault focused on the need to build capacity in this sector to improve revenue.

For them, education, health, infrastructure, energy and water should be the priority sectors. They also agreed that the Treasury Committee announced during the general policy presentation on February 26 in the National Assembly be set up. It is also clear from this tripartite meeting that the ministers will henceforth have the signature on the budgets and that their management will be strictly controlled by the ministers in charge of financial matters.

For the Prime Minister, head of government, the follow-up of the ministers' roadmap aims to "get out of the dictatorship of urgency". Julien Nkoghe Bekale instructed the Budget Minister to resolve the crisis in the Financial Regies.
