Structure to the commission in Abuja also said efforts will be made to rehabilitate and provide shelter for them.

In October 2017 President Muhammadu Buhari, signed into law the establishment of the North East Development Commission, NEDC, to take over the activities and structures of all government funded agencies working in the region with a mandate to lead the reconstruction and development of the Northeast which was badly damaged by the activities of the insurgent group Boko haram.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the presidential Committee North East Initiative, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated North East Development Commission, NEDC, and retired Major General Tarfa said repatriation of refugees to Nigeria is the top priority.

The Vice Chairman, Presidential Committee North East Initiative, Tijani Tumsah, while receiving the NEDC team, outlined efforts made so far.

One other major issue discussed was the difficulty faced in rehabilitating the repentant Boko harm insurgents back into the Communities.

PCNI was established in November 2016 with a mandate to serve as primary national coordination and advisory body for humanitarian, transformation, and developmental efforts in the North East.
