Egypt confirms first Covid-19 case in foreigner on Feb. 14, 2020
The first case of coronavirus has been confirmed on the African continent in Egypt on Feb. 14.
First confirmed case in Egypt is a foreigner
According to a joint statement by the World Health Organisation and Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, the first case of coronavirus was confirmed, reported Reuters.
Health officials were able to detect the case as travellers from affected countries were screened.
The nationality of the person or their point of entry into Egypt was not mentioned, according to Reuters.
According to WHO, this makes Egypt the first country in the continent of Africa to confirm a case, and the second in the Middle East, after United Arab Emirates, which has eight confirmed cases.
