Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and top legislator Li Zhanshu respectively met with visiting Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in Beijing on Monday.

Speaking at his meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Li said China is willing to keep consolidating political mutual trust, strengthen coordination of development strategies and deepen all-round cooperation with the UAE.

Li said that the economies of the two countries are highly complementary to each other and that he welcomes Abu Dhabi’s Sovereign Wealth Fund and private funds to invest more in China, adding that China will push forward free trade negotiations with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries including the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that the UAE has confidence in the development of China’s economy and is willing to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields and increase investment in China.

At his meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, said President Xi Jinping and His Highness Crown Prince have reached important new consensus during the current visit of the crown prince, which jointly defines the course of development of bilateral relations in a new era. He said China’s National People’s Congress is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the Federal National Council of the UAE, push for pragmatic cooperation in all areas, enhance exchanges of legislative experience and promote bilateral cooperation to a higher level.

The crown prince said he would like to give priority to the development of relations with China. Speaking highly of the Belt and Road Initiative, he said his country is willing to enhance cooperation in all areas with China and that the Federal National Council of the UAE is willing to exchange legislative experience with the National People’s Congress of China.

The Belt and Road Initiative, referring to the proposal to build a Silk Road Economic Belt and a 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, was proposed by China in 2013 to improve policy coordination, connectivity of facilities, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and strengthened people-to-people exchanges on a trans-continental scale.
