Angola parliament opens disciplinary process against MP of ruling MPLA

The Parliamentary Decorum, Ethic and Term Commission of Angola National Assembly, announced on Wednesday it has filed a disciplinary process against the MP of the ruling People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and daughter of the country’s ex-president,Welwitschia dos Santos, due to her prolonged absence in the parliament.

The Commission said it has scheduled for the beginning of September an audition with the MP.

Justino Pinto de Andrade, chairperson of the commission, said there is an internal disciplinary process against Welwitschia dos Santos, due to her reiterated and prolonged absence in the parliament.

The National Assembly regulation foresees that an MP could lose term, if he exceeds the number of absences allowed by law.

Justino Pinto de Andrade explained that the disciplinary process has nothing to do with personal critical stance Welwitschia dos Santos has adopted, but the process has been filed against her due her prolonged absence in parliamentary sessions.

The commission’s chairperson said the National Assembly has already a notification to submit to the MP, but it could not find her, since she is not in the country and her office, refuses to accept the notification, arguing they have not been instructed to do so. Enditem
