Algeria: lawyers protest before the Constitutional Council

A delegation of 4 lawyers was appointed by the protesters to deliver a letter to the president of the Constitutional Council, Tayeb Belaiz.

Hundreds of lawyers from the region of Algiers, succeeded today Thursday, March 7, to hold a rally in front of the headquarters of the Constitutional Council in Algiers.

The black robes have walked from the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy in Hydra to the premises of the Constitutional Council in Ben Aknoun. The marchers had to force the police roadblocks near the Supreme Court to reach their destination. The police tried in vain to prevent them from progressing to the seat of the Constitutional Council.

On arriving at the entrance to the seat of the Constitutional Council, protesters chanted anti-government slogans demanding compliance with the Constitution. "Free and Democratic Algeria", "No to the 5th mandate" or "For the respect of freedom", are the main slogans repeated.

A delegation of four lawyers was appointed by the protesters to go to request a hearing from the President of the Constitutional Council Tayeb Belaiz to deliver a letter on behalf of the capital's lawyers.

Note that today's action was decided last Monday by the Bar Association of Algiers to mark its support for the popular movement against the 5th term.
